About the role
You’ll be Gamma's second lawyer, reporting to the Head of Legal, with a mandate to own commercial and privacy work that comes with scaling an AI-powered platform. This is a high-autonomy role: you’ll run enterprise deal cycles end to end, assist in building out our privacy compliance program, and advise cross-functional teams.
Gamma has over 70 million users, is profitable with $100M+ ARR, and is making a major push into B2B enterprise sales. That means the volume and complexity of our legal work is growing fast: sophisticated customer negotiations, heightened privacy and security expectations, and increasing regulatory attention on AI products. We need someone who can keep pace.
Our team has a strong in-office culture and works in person 4–5 days per week in San Francisco. We love working together to stay creative and connected, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.
What you'll do
- Draft, review, and negotiate the full range of commercial agreements: customer MSAs, order forms, DPAs, vendor contracts, NDAs, and partnership deals on both the sell side and buy side
- Run enterprise deal cycles alongside the GTM, including negotiations with sophisticated legal teams at large counterparties
- Evolve Gamma’s data privacy compliance program
- Advise Product and Engineering on privacy-by-design, AI compliance (including EU AI Act readiness), and data handling practices
- Help build scalable legal processes, playbooks, and templates to support Gamma’s growing B2B motion
What you'll bring
- JD and active bar membership (California preferred)
- 4–7 years of legal experience, including meaningful time at a major law firm and at least 2-3 years in-house at a SaaS or technology company
- Deep experience negotiating SaaS commercial agreements with enterprise customers
- Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and data protection frameworks sufficient to handle DPA negotiations and day-to-day privacy operations without close supervision
- Familiarity with AI/ML regulatory developments (EU AI Act, state-level AI legislation) and an ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical product guidance
- Sharp judgment on when to protect and when to clear the path—you understand that legal risk management serves the business
- Direct, clear communication: you can explain a complex redline position to a sales rep or a privacy obligation to an engineer without losing the audience
Nice to have
- Experience at a high-growth startup navigating the transition from consumer/prosumer to enterprise
- Hands-on experience with international data transfers and multi-jurisdictional privacy compliance
- Exposure to security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, security questionnaires) in a vendor-facing context
Compensation range:
$180K - $260K, plus competitive equity.
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to experience and expertise in the requirements listed above.
