About the role
We're looking for an experienced frontend focused engineer to join our team.
Over the past year, we've grown from a private beta serving hundreds of active users to a hot AI tool growing faster everyday with millions of users hitting our servers from around the world at all hours of the day. Gamma.app never sleeps!
This position is an onsite role in San Francisco with a hybrid flexible work culture. You'll be expected to come in to our Potrero Hill office 3 days per week with a schedule that works best for you.
We're looking for candidates from diverse backgrounds who are interested in:
  • Developing the core foundation of a realtime collaborative web app using CRDTs and WebSockets
  • Building complex AI workflows into the product
  • Moving fast and shipping to production daily
  • Thinking about frontend performance as a top priority
  • Building sophisticated and performant drag and drop interfaces
  • Debugging thorny and complex bugs without much to go on
  • Reading and suggesting improvements to open source projects that are at the core of the Gamma web application
  • Building out integrations and embedded apps
What you'll do:
  • Build and maintain the core foundations of our collaborative editor
  • Implement complex AI-powered features and workflows
  • Optimize frontend performance to ensure a smooth user experience
  • Develop sophisticated drag and drop interfaces
  • Debug and fix complex issues across our codebase
  • Contribute to open source projects that we depend on
  • Create integrations with other platforms and embedded applications
Above all, we're looking for someone with a passion for JavaScript and creating awesome web apps. We care as much about your attitude and curiosity as your technical knowledge, and less about how long your resume is.
Our ideal candidate has:
  • 3-7 years experience as a frontend software engineer
  • A strong understanding of:
  • Modern JavaScript / TypeScript and ReactJS (w/hooks)
  • Asynchronous programming in JavaScript (promises, macro/micro tasks and the event loop, async/await, etc...)
  • The browser document object model and React's virtual DOM
  • How mutation observers and event propagation work
  • Experience with the state management in React, preferably with Redux
  • Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (e.g. you're capable of writing vanilla JS instead of using lodash or jQuery)
  • Experience working in large complex production scale frontend codebases
  • Experience working with mature APIs (REST or GraphQL)
Bonus points for:
  • Experience with ProseMirror or other document editor frameworks
  • Experience with large language models and AI prompting
  • Experience programming with TypeScript
  • Experience with Prisma and Apollo GraphQL
  • Contributions to open source projects (big or small)
  • Experience with websockets and realtime data synchronization
  • Experience with Node, NestJS, or Express
  • Experience with NextJS
Compensation & benefits:
The base annual salary range for this role is $170k-$230k.
  • Competitive compensation package including equity
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance for you and your benefits
  • Unlimited PTO and flexible hours — we encourage everyone to take time off as needed!
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including but not limited to experience and expertise in the requirements listed above.
If you're interested about this role but you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway! We're always excited about meeting great people and we care about more than the bullet points on your resume.
Our stack
While this role is frontend focused, you'll inevitably be working across the entire product. Fortunately, we're building a full Typescript stack centered around some of the most modern and popular technologies:
AI
  • Language Models: Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Gemini 1.5, GPT-4o,
  • Image Models: Flux, Imagen, Ideogram and many more.
